Mom/Daughter Journal

Whenever I have to go to the supermarket or to run errands around the city, I always ask Julissa to come with me. I enjoy her company and we get to have some alone girl time at the same time. But what I really like about these simple outings is that Julissa opens up to me a lot more when we're alone; this is especially true during car rides.

Talking for Julissa is not a problem - this child can talk FOREVER! She's not afraid to speak up lol - but she seems to open up about personal issues and ask more meaningful questions when we're alone and when the boys are not around to interrupt her every five minutes!

It's a girl thing, I guess *shrugs*.

Lately we have been talking about a lot of things; God, religion, friends and friend  problems (yes, girl drama lol!), puberty and body image, makeup and style, amongst other things. And suddenly it hit me—my baby is growing up! I suddenly got this urge that I need to be more "available" to my daughter. At all times! I needed a way in which she can reach out to me when I can't physically be there or when she doesn't want to talk to me face to face.

So after doing some online browsing I decided to make this Mom and I Diary.

I got this notebook in her favorite color at Michael's at 50% off and the letters at the dollar store <3.

I went out and got the supplies - a journal book and sticky letters - for a total of $6.00! You don't need anything too expensive to start a conversation with your daughter. It mostly takes lots of time, attention and most of all an open heart ;).

I think every mother/daughter combo should have one of these diaries to create open conversations and powerful relationships between themselves. I personally can't wait to write my first journal entry! My goal is for each of us to make a journal entry once a week. I'm excited to see where this takes us! :)
